Labels are a great way to group tasks, stories, decisions, risks and issues under a named group. The label can then be used to filter your view of the Kanban on that or any other previously created label.
In particular, we recommend using labels if your grouping isn't time-based (i.e. it doesn't need to be delivered by a particular date - if it did, you'd want to use an activity in the plan to group them).


How to create a label

To add your own label do the following:

  • Click Labels in the filters menu in the Kanban
  • Then select CREATE LABEL
  • Give your new label a logical name and description so that you and other users can find and use it
  • Select CREATE LABEL.



Using labels

The new label can then be linked to any task, story, decision, risk or issue. Simply search for the desired label in the LINKS box of a work item detail view, as below:


And they can be filtered by using the LABELS filter in the Kanban.


Note that labels are associated to a specific project and therefore cannot be created from your My Kanban (though they can be filtered by).
